About ASNM
American Society of Neurophysiological Monitoring
The American Society of Neurophysiological Monitoring (ASNM) was founded in 1990 to serve the emerging field of intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM). We are a non-profit professional organization that promotes education, quality, and standards for the IONM Profession.
Who We Are
We come from both academic centers and private industry, and our membership has diverse terminal degrees (AS, BS/BA, MS, PhD, AuD, DC, DO, and MDs). We are thought leaders and serve in many professional leadership roles beyond the ASNM including ISIN, AAN, ACNS, ASET, CAAHEP-CoA, and surgical societies such as the North American Spine Society (NASS).
Our Goals
- Develop and pursue standards of excellence in performance of patient care and clinical practice among all involved in neurophysiological monitoring.
- Provide quality educational offerings using the venues of meetings, webinars, on-line modules and other means supported by current or future technologies in order to promote high quality patient care.
- Develop the knowledge base that defines, supports and enhances the practice of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.
- Create a point of access that allows mutual support and information sharing in the field of IONM.
- Articulate the value of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) to all stakeholders.
- Promote the development of a community that welcomes all who are directly involved with IONM.
We Promote Our Goals By:
- Fostering the growth and stature of neurophysiological monitoring as a profession.
- Providing a forum for education and dissemination of knowledge in the field.
- Developing quality standards for practice and training.
- Building partnerships and coalitions with allied professionals.
Who Do We Represent?
We represent the entire IONM community, the technical community (vendors and equipment manufacturers) and our nursing, anesthesiology, and surgeon partners. And patients.
